Operating a Motorcycle in Indiana

In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Indiana you must:

  • Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
  • Obtain an Indiana motorcycle license endorsement (in some instances you may need to obtain a learner’s permit)
  • Register your motorcycle with the state of Indiana
  • Obtain insurance coverage that meets Indiana state requirements

Getting an Indiana Motorcycle License Endorsement

According to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must obtain a motorcycle endorsement to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Indiana

Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course.  In Indiana, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain an Indiana motorcycle endorsement.
