Rider insures a wide range of motorcycles and ATV/Off-Road vehicles with insurance coverage options to satisfy the needs of our customers in Indiana. All of our policies insure individuals for recreational use only.
All Rider Insurance policies include uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This coverage allows you to obtain payment for injuries caused by an uninsured or underinsured motorist who is at fault in an accident. Uninsured motorist coverage protects you if you are in an accident caused by someone who does not have the minimum level of insurance required by law, or who caused you bodily injury and whose insurance coverage is not obtainable because the driver fled the scene. Claims that you would have made against the uninsured driver who was at fault are paid by your own policy. Uninsured motorist coverage does not benefit the uninsured driver. It also covers you for damage to your vehicle. Uninsured motorist coverage limits are set at the liability limits you choose for your policy, except that the property damage limit is always $10,000. Underinsured motorist coverage protects you if you are in an accident caused by a driver who is insured but who has less coverage than your underinsured motorist coverage. Damages greater than the limits of the at-fault driver's policy are covered by your policy up to the difference between the limits of your underinsured motorist coverage and the other driver's policy limits. For example if your policy contained $50,000 in underinsured benefits and the at-fault driver’s insurance only covered up to $25,000 for your injuries, you would be able to recover up to an additional $25,000 (to reach $50,000) from your policy if you were injured badly enough to be awarded that amount. The minimum limits for Underinsured Motorist Coverage bodily injury are $50,000 per person, $50,000 per accident. There is no Underinsured Motorist property damage coverage.
A reduced premium is available to anyone who elects not to include this optional coverage.
Each policy protects you if another person, including your passenger, makes a claim that they suffered bodily injury or property damage from an accident that was your fault. You have no obligation to the injured party unless the damages exceed your policy limit.
Your insurance policy provides Medical Payment Coverage to pedestrians when struck by your motorcycle and for your spouse when a passenger on your motorcycle when it is operated by you. It pays the cost of hospital, doctor and other medical treatment up to $5,000 for the pedestrian and $2,000 for the spouse. Medical Payment Coverage is not provided for vehicle operator, or any passenger who is not the insured’s spouse.
Many Rider customers inquire about medical payment coverage for the motorcycle operator. While this option is not currently available, Rider is pleased to refer our customers to AFLAC® to consider AFLAC’s Accident Indemnity Plan. Although it is not health insurance, it is designed to put money back into your household for you to use however you see fit. It covers a wide variety of accidents, from as small as cutting your finger and needing stitches, to as big as a motorcycle/car accident.
