Riding Into Peace: My Life on Two Wheels
What I love most about riding a motorcycle is the frame of mind it puts me in. The moment I hit a nice country road, everything else just fades away. The stress, the noise, the worries—they’re gone. Instead, I’m surrounded by the scents of the world around me, the crisp air, the earth, the trees. It’s like flying without a plane. Peaceful, freeing—like stepping into another world.
One of my favorite escapes is heading up to the Catskills. I’ve got a camper where I load the bike, and my buddy and I will head up there for a week at a time. Just recently, we rode up through New York State, and it was incredible. I don’t ride for transportation; I ride purely for pleasure. For me, riding isn’t about getting from point A to point B—it’s about being in the moment.
I’ve got a few routes I really enjoy. One winds down into Chatsworth, where the cranberry bogs stretch out on either side. In the fall, it’s magical—the colors, the air, the way the light hits everything. That’s also when I love joining the Harley covered bridge runs through New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Riding across those old bridges, with the leaves turning all around, is pure eye candy. Another favorite is riding up along the Delaware River. The scenery there never disappoints.
I even enjoy riding in the winter months. As long as the roads are clear and the sun is shining, I’m out there. I’ve got a heated suit that keeps me warm—it can heat up to 72 degrees—so I’m comfortable no matter how chilly it gets. There’s something special about winter rides. The air is crisp, the roads are quiet, and the world feels different when you’re out on two wheels.
Some of my best riding memories are from abroad. Riding through Italy and up into the Dolomites was unforgettable. We passed through tiny villages perched on mountaintops, cows with bells crossing the streets as if time hadn’t touched them. We started in Milan and made our way through the Stelvio Pass—a ride that draws bikers from all over the world. The Stelvio is no joke. The curves are so sharp you’ve got to swing wide before coming back in, because if you take them wrong, you’re going down. If you’re not in the right gear, you’ll stall or tip—it’s straight up, unforgiving. Nerve-wracking, yes, but also exhilarating. It’s the kind of ride that demands everything from you. You’ve got to be on your game.
For me, riding is more than a hobby—it’s a way of life. It’s where I find peace, adventure, and connection with the world around me. Whether I’m winding through cranberry bogs in Jersey, braving the Stelvio Pass, or soaking up the stillness of a winter ride, I know one thing for sure: life is always better on two wheels.
