Operating a Motorcycle in Florida

In order to operate a motorcycle in Florida, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
  • Obtain a Florida “motorcycle only” license  or a motorcycle license endorsement (in some instances you may need to obtain a learner’s permit)
  • Register your motorcycle with the state of Florida (exemptions may apply)
  • Obtain insurance coverage that meets Florida state requirements

Getting a Florida Motorcycle License / Endorsement

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motorcycle Vehicles, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must obtain a motorcycle license or hold a “Motorcycle Only” license.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Florida

Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course.  In Florida, it is mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain a Florida Motorcycle License Endorsement or a “Motorcycle Only” license.
