Operating a Motorcycle in Massachusetts
In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Massachusetts you must:
- Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
- Obtain a Massachusetts motorcycle license (you also need to obtain a motorcycle learners’ permit)
- with the state of Massachusetts
- Obtain insurance coverage that meets Massachusetts state requirements

Getting a Massachusetts Motorcycle License
According to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles Department of Transportation, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a motorcycle license to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Massachusetts
Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Massachusetts, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain a Massachusetts motorcycle license, unless you are under the age of 18.
