Operating a Motorcycle in Alabama

In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Alabama you must:

  • Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
  • Obtain an Alabama motorcycle license endorsement (you may also need to obtain a motorcycle learner’s permit)
  • Register your motorcycle with the state of Alabama
  • Obtain insurance coverage that meets Alabama state requirements

Getting an Alabama Motorcycle License Endorsement

According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a motorcycle license endorsement to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Alabama

Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Alabama, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain an Alabama motorcycle license endorsement.
